Issues

I am working to make North Carolina a better place to live and work for everyone. There are so many important issues that impact the lives of North Carolinians. Here are just a few of my policy priorities.

Voting Rights & Elections

North Carolinians deserve free and fair elections, where voters choose their representatives, not the other way around. I will continue to push for improvements to ensure our elections are run impartially and with transparency, including advocating for a non-partisan independent redistricting committee and expanded access to voting. I am also strongly opposed to dark money in politics.

Public Education

I believe in the Constitutional promise of a sound, basic education for every child. I support fully funding our public schools, as order by the Leandro Plan, to ensure all students, regardless of background or zip code, have access to high-quality education and the opportunity to reach their full potential. I do not support tax-payer funding for private schools. I will continue to fight for increased pay for teachers and all school staff, and work to reverse recent laws allowing lawmakers and others to meddle in public school curriculums. I also support de-politicizing governance in our public university system.

Environment and Energy Policy

I have spent my entire career fighting for stronger environmental protections and clean energy. Pollution and toxic chemicals are a persistent and growing problem that must be addressed. I will push for policies that help address climate change  and also promote environmental justice for communities that have been historically impacted by bad policy decisions that serve corporate interests. I am also working to stop utility companies from passing on the cost of pollution cleanup to consumers and implementing unfair rate increases.

Access to Healthcare

Budget cuts at the federal level are threatening the stability of Medicaid Expansion in North Carolina. And many communities still lack access to basic services and quality healthcare. We must do more to ensure that everyone can get the care they need as close to home as possible. I will work to expand the healthcare workforce, increase mental health services, and provide quality healthcare to all North Carolinians. I will also advocate to reverse recently passed laws that target trans and LGBTQ+ North Carolinians, and block women's rights to make their own reproductive health decisions in private with their healthcare providers.

Workers' Rights

Workers are being left behind in North Carolina. I support raising the minimum wage, ensuring that workers can earn a living wage that allows them to enjoy the fruits of their labor rather than just barely getting by. I will continue to advocate for the repeal of "right to work" laws, allowing workers to organize and engage in collective bargaining. Safe workplaces and access to training and proper equipment and resources required to get the work done are essential.

I also support adequate funding and increased benefit amounts for unemployed workers while they are looking for work.

Justice & Public Safety

I support a criminal justice system that provides safety, security, and justice for all. I will continue to advocate for policies that provide for public safety while also offering opportunities for rehabilitation and second chances.

I also support common sense gun legislation that keeps our communities and our children safe. Recent legislation that eliminates training and permit requirements for concealed carry are just one example of how we are moving in the wrong direction.
